Phillipsburg Civil War Memorial

This one is pretty self explanatory, no? The Civil War Memorial in Phillipsburg! It’s near the Phillipsburg Railroad Historians Museum (which I have not gone to…yet).

In all seriousness, this is a remarkable memorial. Typically, each town has a plaque listing names of those who did not make it home from war and/or columns or something of that sort. This memorial truly blows all others I’ve seen out of the water. It was erected in 1906 for the soldiers and sailors of Phillipsburg and the vicinity in Shappell Park.

There are 3 seacoast mortars I this fenced-in area. There are small plaques providing information on where the mortar was used and when. The actual monument depicts the different soldiers in the Civil War. It also provides the names of generals on each of the 3 sides. On the column, the names of battles and skirmishes are listed as well.
