The Concrete Mile Marker

One of my best friends recently moved the Phillipsburg area. Now, this is uncharted territory for me, as the only place in Warren County I’ve been to was Belvidere! I have a bunch of places to check to out listed in my big, fat binder, but this was not listed at all. She told me about it and I was excited to see it. Obviously, it’s just one mile and a sign. Not much to see, but it’s history nonetheless!

You can find this on Washington Avenue (New Jersey Route 57). The inscription states it all. Not much more to say, but it’s still around and not paved over with tar. Don’t worry, there will be plenty more posts that are bigger than this for Warren County.

Since I can’t make this post super short, I’ll give you a little background on the cemetery company. Edison’s Portland Cement Company was founded in 1899, and per Wikipedia, it supplied the concrete to construct Yankee Stadium. Shortly after the building of the stadium, The Great Depression hit, thus hitting the company, which filed for bankruptcy.
